My Reflection Asks For Personal Space, 2026. 29.7x42cm.
Welcome to the creative world of Alana Sawrey (aKA Lani): LANISARTY.
Lani is a Brisbane based artist and registered art therapist who follows curiosity wherever it wanders. Her work lives in the space between daydream and detail—where playful marks, repeating archetypal characters and quiet whimsical humour coexist. Guided more by intuition than instruction, Lani treats the creative process like a conversation: sometimes thoughtful, sometimes mischievous, always sincere and honest. Using colourful pencils and biro, Lani explores ideas around faith, identity, meaning making, mental health, morality, and observations of daily life. She invites viewers to slow down, look twice, and find their own small moments of wonder tucked between the mundane. Lani has never formally studied art beyond school, and champions the accessibly of her whimsical surrealist style of art for anyone to be able to express their own visual language and engage in the playfulness of creativity.
Lani has a Master of Mental Health (Art Therapy) and a Bachelor of Social Science (Human Services/ Human Behaviour) and works in forensic adult mental health as well as in visual arts. Lani thoroughly loves public speaking and giving artist talks, encouraging playful though honest conversation around mental health, identity and wellbeing, and has experience:
Running creative wellbeing sessions in school environments (both primary and high school)
Delivering educational mental health workshops to chaplains
Running faith based workshops and speaking at church groups
Working in forensic mental health settings
Creating murals for commercial spaces
